Our Services
Assessment
The first step is to have your child complete a speech and language assessment. This assessment will help determine your child’s communication strengths as well as areas for growth. Kamloops Speech and Language Services uses both formal and informal assessment measures, including standardized tests, clinical observation, and play. The evaluation can include assessment of one or more of the following:
Depending on the unique needs of your child, the assessment may be completed in one visit or it may require several sessions. Assessment of skills and performance also occurs as an ongoing process during therapy.
Treatment
As each child is unique, we will develop an individualized, family centered treatment plan to address your child’s communication needs, based on the results of the assessment. Treatment may include a combination of traditional speech therapy targeting articulation difficulties and language delay, augmentative and alternative communication, parent training, and/or group therapy for social skills training. There are many reasons a child may need speech therapy, so each child receiving services at Kamloops Speech and Language will be given the treatment that meets his/her specific need(s).
Consultation
It is essential that your child’s communication skills transfer outside of the therapy room. To facilitate this, we offer consultation services to your child’s daycare, preschool, or school team as well as with any other professionals that may be involved with your child, at your request.
